One City, One Cookbook

One City, One Cookbook

This year’s book, The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson, tells the story of Cussy Mary Carter, a Kentucky Blue Person and Pack Horse Librarian. The Pack Horse Librarians delivered books and magazines to the people of rural Appalachia. These grateful families often felt bad for receiving something for nothing, so the wives and mothers began sharing recipes and quilt patterns with their librarians. The librarians took these materials and turned them into scrapbooks that they began circulating as well.

Just like the bookwomen, we are going to collect recipes from the community and put them together into One City, One Cookbook! We are asking patrons and residents to send us their favorite recipes. This can be a recipe passed down from generation to generation or a new family classic. The recipes collected will be turned into One City One Cookbook, which will be available for purchase with all proceeds benefiting the Livonia Public Library! Stay tuned for more information on how to buy your copy!
