Election Update from the City of Livonia Clerk's Office
The next election is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and our City Clerk's team is working hard to ensure the democratic process goes on without a hitch. The safety of everyone involved in the election process is our top priority. Our election workers will be wearing masks and using hand sanitizer. We encourage voters to wear masks if they come into a precinct to vote. We will have a limited supply of masks on hand. Unless something changes, all of Livonia's precincts will be open for in-person voting from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you have any questions, please call the City Clerk's Office at (734) 466-2230.
Absentee ballots for the November 2020 Presidential Election will be mailed out by the beginning of October. The official ballot is yet to be finalized. Ballots can be returned to the City Clerk via mail, in person or deposited in the red mailbox outside City Hall.
Absentee Ballot Application
All eligible and registered voters in Michigan may now request an absent voter ballot without providing a reason due to the passage of a statewide ballot proposal in November 2018. You can still apply to receive an absentee ballot for the November election. The application can be downloaded at www.VoteLivonia.org. Applications can be returned to the City Clerk via mail, in person or deposited in the red mailbox outside City Hall. If you indicated that you wanted an absentee ballot for August and November, you do not need to fill out another application.
Are You Registered to Vote?
You can register to vote from now until the day of the election. To check if you are already registered, please visit the Michigan Voter Information Center.
If you need to register, you can do it online, by mail or in person at the City of Livonia Clerk's Office or any Secretary of State office through Monday, Oct. 19. Then, you can register in-person from Tuesday, Oct. 20, through 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Clerk's Office. Download the application. You must show proof of where you live. Documents must have your name and current address. You can show a digital copy of any document. Acceptable documents include:
- Michigan driver's license or state ID card
- Current utility bill
- Bank statement
- Paycheck or government check
- Other government document

The Clerk's Office is now accepting applications for precinct inspectors. To qualify, you must be a registered voter within the State of Michigan and a United States citizen. This is a great opportunity to serve your community and to be part of the election process.
Precinct inspectors must be able to:
- Assemble simple voting stations
- Attend an educational training program (mandatory every two years by the State of Michigan)
- Follow instructions provided by the precinct Chairperson
- Perform simple math calculations
- Possess inter-personal skills to work with a diverse community population
- Read and write legibly in the English language
- Work well with others

Rate of Pay and Hours
- Chairperson: $235
- Co-Chairperson: $210
- Inspector: $170
Hours are from 6 a.m. until approximately 9 p.m. or until the last voter has cast their ballot, and the processing and cleanup is completed. All inspectors are required to stay and help in the closeout processing and clean up. The precinct chairperson will dismiss you.
