A Kahn-designed factory in Detroit

Historical Lecture Series: Ford and Kahn

Learn about Michigan history 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Greenmead Historical Park.

In 1908, Albert Kahn began to design the buildings that Henry Ford envisioned for his company's new site in Highland Park. By the time Mr. Kahn designed the Ford Willow Run Plant, he and his firm had designed more than one thousand Ford buildings.

Although Ford and Kahn worked closely and successfully together, attendees will learn more about how their interactions were impacted by Henry Ford’s public antisemitism. Join us as we welcome Michael Skinner for this free program sponsored by the Livonia Historical Commission.

Livonia Senior Wellness Center being constructed

#RecreatingTheRec

As the exterior walls for both the new Livonia Senior Wellness Center and new West Gym stand tall, construction crews are working on some interior elements while fending off the cold weather. New roofs and doorways have been appearing. Interior renderings are available at LivoniaBuilt.org.

The Rec will close early at 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, for essential electrical work. We’ll reopen at 6 a.m. Saturday, May 3.

The Main Gyms will close in 2025 once the new West Gym is complete. The full project is expected to be completed in December 2025. You can visit LivoniaBuilt.org to see the specific timeline for each phase. For more details, check out our Frequently Asked Questions.
