$1 Senior Ice Cream Socials

Please join us in the dining room of the Civic Park Senior Center 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, for a delicious ice cream sundae with all your favorite toppings during our next $1 Senior Ice Cream Social! No registration is necessary, just bring your friends and a dollar! This is for those 55 and older only, so please no grandchildren.

We've added another date in this series: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17! This October event will be in the new Livonia Senior Wellness Center.

Rec Center Readers Book Club: 'The Women' by Kristin Hannah

Join us 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, to discuss our monthly book at The Rec! We'll be discussing "The Women" by Kristin Hannah. This book is available through the Livonia Public Library.

"The Women" by Kristin Hannah is a powerful historical novel that follows the journey of a young woman who volunteers as a nurse during the Vietnam War, only to find herself caught in a web of danger, courage, and personal transformation. Set against the backdrop of a divided America, the story explores themes of sacrifice, identity, and the often-overlooked roles women played during one of the most turbulent periods in modern history. Through vivid storytelling and emotional depth, the novel sheds light on the resilience of those who served and the challenges they faced both abroad and upon returning home.

Greenmead Fall Flea Market

Bring your wagon or cart and shop from 163 vendors at the Greenmead Fall Flea Market on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds benefit Greenmead Historical Park. For more information, please call (248) 477-7375. No dogs are permitted at this event.

Admission is $3 for those ages 13 and older, and children 12 and younger enter for free.

Free parking can be found in the Special Events Parking Lot, located on Newburgh Road, and in parking lots located off Victor Parkway near the Farm Complex. Please do not park in the lots of nearby businesses or churches.

Vendor spots sold out almost immediately for this event, and we will never reach out from an outside account if additional vendor spots are available. Vendor spots are nontransferable. Important updates regarding changes to the Kirksey Recreation Center schedules and amenities include:

  • Aug. 14: Leisure Pool reopened.
  • Aug. 18: Hot Tub/Spa reopened.
  • Aug. 11-22: Temporary Detour for flooring/ceiling installation. Please use Main Gym 2 to access the MAC Gyms. Follow signs for directions.
  • Aug. 29-30: Kirksey Recreation Center full closure. FitHub equipment to be placed throughout building during FitHub space remodeling.
  • Sept. 2: The new gym space opens on the west end of the building.
  • Sept. 2: Indoor track closes through at least November.
