Did you know?

The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5, 1770, when tensions between British soldiers and Boston colonists erupted into violence. After a heated confrontation in the streets, British troops fired into a crowd, killing five civilians. The incident quickly became a powerful symbol of British oppression, fueled by dramatic colonial propaganda. Leaders like Paul Revere and Samuel Adams used the event to rally support for resistance against British rule. Ultimately, the Boston Massacre helped push the colonies closer to the American Revolution by intensifying public outrage and distrust.

History Lecture Series

For the last century, the Detroit Public Library has ranked as one of the most beautiful buildings in Detroit — an important landmark, as well as a significant monument serving generations of Detroiters. The design of the Detroit Public Library was Cass Gilbert's vision for Detroit's Early Italian Renaissance-style library. We will learn about the contributions of local and national artists such as Mary Chase Perry Stratton, Gari Melchers, and John Stephens Coppin, and view photographs of the rooms they have decorated with murals, mosaics, painted windows, bronze works, architectural elements, and ornamentation from author Barbara Cohn. Join us 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the Alexander Blue House for this free program. No registration required.

Tiny World's Workshop

Join us 1–2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, for a hands-on, nature‑inspired workshop where you’ll create your very own planted terrarium. Enjoy a guided, step‑by‑step experience as you shape a miniature world filled with greenery and creativity. All materials are provided, just bring your imagination and a willingness to get your hands a little dirty! Advance registration is required for $25/resident, $30/non-resident.

This program is best for ages 16 and older.

Coffee Culture

Discover the rich world of local coffee in a relaxed, sensory‑filled morning workshop. From the origins of your favorite beans to the subtle differences between blends and brewing styles, you’ll explore how flavor, history, and craft come together in every cup. Join us 9-10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 29, for this engaging program presented by Gooseneck Coffee. Whether you’re a casual sipper or a devoted coffee enthusiast, you’ll come away with a deeper appreciation for what’s in your mug.
